title : flag day.
we were all dressed up. BUT..............
As you can see from the above picture, I'm fickle-minded. So, be warned. =)
Yesterday made me remember vividly with intricate details, how it feels like having your presence being ignored and treated like you're just another of those posters hanging on the walls of the MRT station or the bicycles being parked at the bicycle carpark. (haha! i have no idea what they are called lah! =p)
FLAG DAY.
Oh man. I should have been expecting and be more than prepared for all those treatments I got with all those experiences of Flag Days during my NCC days. Somehow, I was totally caught off guard by the absent-mindedness and discourteous attitude of most Singaporeans.
Like excuse me?!
Is it that hard to just turn your head to my direction, acknowledge my presence and just nod or something?! I seriously wouldn't mind at all if I'd been standing there like a statue, expecting donations to come rolling in without any effort on my part all all. But, no. I approached everyone I could possibly cover at that point of time and asked politely with a big, wide, sincere smile plastered on my face, "Excuse me Sir/ Ma'am, would you like to donate?" So isn't it only approprite if they just nod or smile or just SOMETHING? And if you'd notice, I didn't chase after people who do not donate after smilling or nodding, but instead say a big "THANK YOU" with that same smile still glued on my face. It's sincere though. Very sincere.
Then there are still many others who upon seeing us, donation collectors doing community service, who choose to turn and walk one big round around me as if I'm carrying some bug/virus/flu/disease or something. Again, it's not that hard to just continue walking normally and just smile at us you know. Of course you could choose to ignore those who just stand there without asking around for donations. They're not doing community service after all.
Still, an incident which brightened up my day till I got home happened. Somebody donated me $10 just like that! So generous man! I actually went "OHMYGOD!" upon seeing him taking it out. Yupps, jakon man. First time getting such a big donation for Flag Day you see. Usually, I just see it happening to my friends with much envy. Alhamdulillah, rezeki ku sampai akhirnya. Harap-harap rezeki itu disampaikan pula kepada mereka yang memerlukan. Amin. Sadly though, an ang moh at that. I just hope he's Singaporean man. At least that would prove that there are still super generous people in this country. A big-big THANK YOU to you though uncle! =D
So please people, next time you're being approached to donate, do acknowlege that person and just SMILE alryte? Furthermore, a smile is still charity you know. And you would be giving that particular person motivation to continue asking others. Let's start being courteous and give people the due respect they should be getting. And do try to be generous people and donate if it's within your capability. =)
